photoblog image 'Scene' in Dorset - Corfe Castle 4/6

'Scene' in Dorset - Corfe Castle 4/6

This "longish" series comprises a variety of subjects and shots I took during our April visit to Dorset for our nephews wedding.

Another shot of Corfe Castle on the hill behind the village.  This was taken from the train for Swanage shortly after departure.

This picture does give some idea of the age of the buildings in the village.

And just look how big that castle originally was Brian - it must have completely dominated the place!

This kind of history in one shot leaves me speechless, Brian. THIS is Europe for me. This is what I love. Welcome back!
Brian Walbey: Thanks Ginnie. Alan tells me that a lot of the cottages in Corfe were actually built with stone from the ruined castle on the hill.

I looked at your archive, the pictures of Dorset, amazing buildings, love the old style to it, it must have been wonderful to see that all.
Love castles, I always picturit how it was in old times, with knights, horses, fights.....King and Queens smile
Brian Walbey: Thanks Astrid. Corfe is one of the most famous ruined castles in the country and the whole area is very nice indeed. There are still a few more images of Dorset still to come if you have time to look in with the busy schedule you hint at.

A very unusual viewpoint, Brian, so it's very interesting to see it like this. You probably know that a lot of the buildings were built with stone from the castle.
Brian Walbey: Grab shot out of the train window Alan that turned out lucky. Thanks for the info.and your comment.
what a great shot, especially from where you were, pity about the cars and van though
Brian Walbey: I was a bit annoyed about those Derek but there wasn't much I could do.
Wow, awesome, ruins. Imagine what it was like at it's peak...
cool stuff!
Brian Walbey: I think it was quite a tall castle Rob to make the most of being at the top of a steep hill.
Excellent shot Brian. I love shots of this castle in its surroundings.
Brian Walbey: Thank you John.
