photoblog image Bradgate Park - 4/10

Bradgate Park - 4/10

I have featured Bradgate Park, near Leicester, before but not the southern end at the village of Newtown Linford.  We took a walk there with the grandchildren in early April and this series will give you an idea how lovely it is, and different from the northern end.

After a while the narrow part of the park opens out into the large moorland areas and here one gets the first view of "Old John", a folly on the top of the largest hill in the park.  It is actually a steeper climb up to it than it seems in this picture.

More about "Old John" later in the series.

What an attractive place for a long, leisurely stroll, Brian.
Brian Walbey: About 850 acres in all Ray with different types of scenery. I have put a link in tomorrow which might give more idea of the terrain.
gorgeous landscape!!! love the old wall
Brian Walbey: It is lovely Charles and right on the doorstep of three of our biggest cities as well.
This is quite a park Brian. I shall wait with interest for more about old John
Brian Walbey: I just know you would enjoy Bradgate Bill, what a shame you live so far away.

Glad you put those people in the shot Brian: now I can grasp the scale of this. Looks a lovely place!
Brian Walbey: Actually the zoom on the lens has made the hill seem nearer than it is Chris, it is alo very steep for an old 'un like me with a dicky heart!
Hey Brian ...been there done that...... goodness knows how many times.

richard
Brian Walbey: And no doubt you will do it again some time Richard.
What a wonderful place. Nice to have included the people giving a good scale idea!
Brian Walbey: Thanks Richard.
Looks like a really lovely place to walk, Brian. I love that stone wall!
Brian Walbey: Knowing you like countryside Mary I am certain that two days walking the different areas of Bradgate would really satisfy your appetite for nice scenery.
Lovely bit of wilderness with "Old John" keeping watch. It's got a bit of a moody feel. Nice one Brian
Brian Walbey: Many thanks Janet.
I have heard the name Old John many times, lovely landscapesmile
Brian Walbey: Thanks Linda, it is some time since we struggled our way up to Old John, that hill is far steeper than it looks.
Lovely park to wonder in Brian. Definitely a place with the camera.
Brian Walbey: Photos galore all over the park Ron, thanks.
beautiful shot Briansmile
Brian Walbey: Many thanks Tim.
Great landscape, 'Old John' (I thought I heard my name) looks interestingsmile
Brian Walbey: Old John is very interesting, just a bit of a steep climb for an elderly bloke like me with heart problem sadly.
Interesting composition, Brian.
Brian Walbey: Thanks Tom.
This is more like our Spanish landscape, not much green.
Brian Walbey: Come mid-summer it does get greener min parts Sheila but there is a lot of gorse and scrub type grass in some areas.
cool, like a Robin Hood movie set.
Brian Walbey: And not that far from Robin Hood country at Nottingham Rob, perhaps he even ventured here all those years ago, if he really existed that is smile
