photoblog image Loughborough Carillon - In The Mist

Loughborough Carillon - In The Mist

2009 Retrospective - I had a number of images I took last year that I would have liked to have posted on SC but time didn't allow.  For the time being I am posting a number of these, in no particular order, which I hope you will enjoy.

Not only is Loughborough famous for the Great Central Railway but also for its Carillon in Queens Park.  This is also the town war memorial and a regimental museum is inside on the upper floors as well.

This was taken on a particularly damp morning last December and includes the bandstand in the picture as well.  You will see two different images of this on Wednesday and Friday this week.

Very damp and grey Brian...it was a long winter!
Brian Walbey: It still wet here today Bill, and there's me thinking spring had come.

It actually reminds me of the water towers I see all over Holland, Brian, and which I love to collect. I wonder how many bells this carillon has? It's totally charming, even in the damp fog.
Brian Walbey: Thanks Ginnie. It has 47 bells all cast at a very old foundry in Loughborough, you will see it in the sunshine on Wednesday.

I think I would not have had the lower tree branch as part of the frame as it hides the the top of the building.Just my thought Brian
Brian Walbey: That's o.k.vintgae, I could have bent down but then might have lost the puddle bit in the foreground.
Very nicely framed Brian. I like the atmosphere!
Brian Walbey: Thanks very much Richard.
I can see a family gathering this evening round my computer. An interesting building to visit smile
Brian Walbey: Well you will have to gather again on Wednesday and Friday then Linda, oh and tomorrow as well.
Shame that Bandstands are rarely used these days ... richard
Brian Walbey: Indeed Richard, although I believe they do have concerts during the summer months.
nice framing and composition here smile
Brian Walbey: Many thanks Toni.
Good shot for a grey day, Brian - very atmospheric in all senses!

Not something I've known about Loughborough; it's sporting university seems more famous. I think I would have lost the puddle and caught more of the top of the tower and perhaps used the branches to frame it; just a thought!
Brian Walbey: Thanks Alan. I liked the puddle but I do agree, on reflection, (no pun intended), that I could have got down and lost a bit of the tree, next winter maybe.
Very nice composition Brian. The mist and the tree branches really set this off.
Brian Walbey: Many thanks Janet.

A beautifully composed image, Brian, and a pleasure to look at.
Brian Walbey: Many thanks Ray.
Lovely composition and the mist gives good atmosphere Brian
Brian Walbey: And only a few days before the other version were taken Pam, how quickly our weather changes.
