photoblog image Red Postbox

Red Postbox

2009 Retrospective - I had a number of images I took last year that I would have liked to have posted on SC but time didn't allow.  For the time being I am posting a number of these, in no particular order, which I hope you will enjoy.

It is good to come across an old fashioned postbox still in use and this is one at a village near us called Osgathorpe.

I have now opened a blog on Flickr with images that have appeared on SC and others that haven't and will not.  You can find me here

Just have to wonder how it is Brian, amazing that it is still used in this day and age
Brian Walbey: I agree Tony and this dates back to Victorian times.
I like to see these old post boxes. I will have a look at your Flickr collection later!
Brian Walbey: I like to see them as well Bill. Enjoy my Flickr, it is in the early stages as yet, more images will follow in due course.

THIS is iconic England to me, Brian. I love it.
Brian Walbey: Red post boxes and telephone boxes, must be England Ginnie.

The Victorians certainly built things to last Brian. We've a number of these in Bath
Brian Walbey: This is an old victorian one Chris, nice to know you still have some down your way.

Talking of icons and this a VR. This might be my image of England.
Brian Walbey: This and red phone boxes Chad.
It's nice that some of these are still around, Derek. Thanks for the pointer to your Flickr pics.
Brian Walbey: I agree Tom, I hope you enjoy my Flickr, there are a lot more images to add in the course of time.
cool, like the trifecta of elements here, the box, the red brick and the rough stone wall...
Brian Walbey: Many thanks Rob.
A wonderful Victorian one! Very nicely captured Brian.
Brian Walbey: Many thanks Richard.
Well spotted Brian. I will take a closer look next time I see one and see if it says VR.
Brian Walbey: There are still quite a few oldies about Janet, mind you this little village is well away from big towns.

Ahh.. British engineering at its best. I wonder who many coats of paint this has had it its life? Love the name of the village!

I'll have to check Flickr tonight when I get home; alas, such sites are blocked from the Mad House.
Brian Walbey: It is a lovely little village Alan, I can't even remember if it has a pub or shop even.
Nothing quite like the red letter boxes, along with telephone boxes, nicely captured Brian. Will look at Flickr at the weekend smile
Brian Walbey: Thanks Linda. This village still has red phone box as you can see here http://brianaw.shutterchance.com/photoblog/The_Old_Telephone_Box_/
Modern post boxes lack the charm ... Chad is forgetting that white lines are his image of England.

richard
Brian Walbey: Don't ever mention the "white ????" line words again Richard, Chad might overhearsmile
An old timer between the stone and red brick walls...Good one Brian.
Brian Walbey: Many thanks Ron.
So very British. Good weekend Brian.
Brian Walbey: THnaks Albert, this village also has the old red phone box which is at http://brianaw.shutterchance.com/photoblog/The_Old_Telephone_Box_/

I am guessing this oldie is not too busy these days, Brian.

Fine image.
Brian Walbey: Thanks Ray. There are quite a few houses in the village so I suspect it get used quite often.

I very like these old red Victorian post boxes, finely set in the brickstones- What does mean V (ictorian?) and R(surely Royal)? And there might stand a word above the opening? (LETTERS?) The Last Collection Times are similar to our ones!
Brian Walbey: Thanks very much Philine. The VR stands for Victoria Reigns, our Queen at the time this was made. The word above the opening is Post Office, the owners of all our post boxes.
