photoblog image Saltaire, Yorkshire

Saltaire, Yorkshire

2009 Retrospective - I had a number of images I took last year that I would have liked to have posted on SC but time didn't allow.  For the time being I am posting a number of these, in no particular order, which I hope you will enjoy.

I featured the United Reformed Church at Saltaire, Yorkshire in my Yorkshire series in November/December and one of the pictures had a bit of one of these lovely Ormolu Chandeliers in it.  This image shows one of the two in the church in full and also the very ornate ceiling surrounding it.

Lovely!

I never saw powder-blue pipes before.

A pity, it is, that the artists never saw fit to disguise that steel rod and turnbuckle thing as a snake/vine in the Garden of Eden.

[grin]
Brian Walbey: Sadly we arrived in the church a few moments after the organist had been giving a recital, I like the sound of church organs.
lovely Brian! that is some amazing detail in the deocration
Brian Walbey: The whole ceiling is a wonderful pattern of decoration Charles.

beautiful Brian, they obviously spend a lot of time maintaining this church
Brian Walbey: It is indeed Tony, and very well looked after as you will see later in the spring when I post a collage of it.
Wonderfully ornate, but I wouldn't want to clean it!
Brian Walbey: There are two of these very high up, I bet they are worth a fortune.

Heavens this is ornate indeed Brian. Such care has gone into all of this
Brian Walbey: It is a lovely church Chris, quite unexpected for the nature of church that it is.
This looks rather wealthy for a URC Brian.
Brian Walbey: It is very ornate Chad, a great surprise to us.
Lovely, and amazing for a country church.

When you showed Saltaire originally I said I had to put it on my "places to see one day" list. I've just given it another tick.
Brian Walbey: And after you have seen my collage of the church later in the spring Sheila you might be even more tempted to go there.
Nice stuff, Brian - I must get round to visiting Saltaire again.
Brian Walbey: We only had a flying visit Tom, we woul enjoy going back I think.
just wonderful Brian. The tones are superb! Great symmetry here
Brian Walbey: Thanks Richard, the ceiling and these lights are magnificent and such a surprise.

I love how the chandelier matches the ceiling colors, Brian. Wow. What a beauty.
Brian Walbey: And there's two of these Ginnie, a lvely church, not quite what we expected.
Churches have the most wonderful accouterments, this fixture being one of great beauty.
Brian Walbey: There are two of these in the church Mary, the inside came as quite a surprise to us.
this is very nice
what details!!
Brian Walbey: Thanks very much Rob.
Its just amazing the detail these places have..I haven't been in one for years Brian. Lovely picture.
Brian Walbey: We didn't expect artistry like this Ron, we thought it would be just a plain sort of chapel, how wrong we were.
So much detail in them, they are beautiful. I like the pale blue organ pipes.
Brian Walbey: The whole church is lovely Linda, well worth a visit.
Great composition Brian. Looks like a beautiful place and I would love to hear the organ in full flow.
Brian Walbey: Thanks Janet. It is a lovely church and we sadly just missed the organ recital that finished just before we got there.

Janet has said it all for me. I'm sure the organ would sound fabulous. A great capture, Brian.
Brian Walbey: Thanks Alan. We arrived just too late for an organ recital, some consolation was that the Ilkley Camera Club had their annual exhibition in the church, it was interesting to see that.
The fine architectural detail to be found in churches always amazes me Brian. a fine chandelier indeed.
Brian Walbey: Thanks Les, this is one of two similar chandeliers in a very ornate sort of church/chapel.
