A Yorkshire Weekend - Haworth 1/6

After looking at Hebden Bridge last week we move on to Haworth this week.

This place is of course famous as the home of the Bronte sisters and their brother Branwell, but more of that later in the week.

I had to wait a long time to get this shot without anybody in it as the place was teaming with tourists, just like us.

We had good news on Friday, our daughter Caroline, who vowed never to get married, announced that she and her boyfriend Kev are getting married.  Details are to follow apparently.  I will start to check my bank balance in anticipation :-)

A nice atmospheric shot Brian. You'd best take out a second mortgage to pay for the wedding

Only joking!
Brian Walbey: I hope you are joking Chris, I have been mortgage free for 7 years now. Thanks for your comment.
Congrats on the wedding news! Love the phone box!
Brian Walbey: Thanks Bill. Phone boxes are in short supply nowadays.

Nice street work again Brian, good use of the back light/shadows.Have you got a big red coat and white beard ? you might get some seasonal employment to help pay for that special day,HO! HO! HO!
Brian Walbey: Thanks Graham. My tummy is certainly getting large enough to fill a Santa costume these days smile
How complete and English scene is with a red phone box, but for how much longer?
Brian Walbey: You are so right Chad, red boxes seem in short supply these days.

Brian Walbey: Thanks Tracy, I said I could afford £3 per head, do you think that will be enough smile
I love these old phone boxes Brian!

Encouage Caroline to elop lol
Brian Walbey: It might well be cheaper for me vintage, but then i don't get the Brides Fathers speech bit etc.
Good to see they still have a Post Office and red telephone box. Good news from Caroline. I expect you will do some wedding photos for us to see.
Brian Walbey: I was pleased to see the phone box infront of the old Post office Janet. I await news of their wishes for the wedding, but I will no doubt get plenty of photos when it happens.

Encourage them to get married abroad, Brian.. much cheaper with less people needed!
Brian Walbey: That sounds a good idea Alan, we don't travel abroad these days so there might be just the two of them, sounds good on my wallet smile
great news.
I like the telephone box as the metaphorical mechanism to give the news....
or was it??

Cheers
Rob
Brian Walbey: Thanks Rob. The news came via her mobile not a red phone box, we live in modern times don't we.
Looking forward to this series, and the Bronte Sisters part, We have a telephone box like this near where I live, and now it has stickers all over it saying, coins not accepted!! Congratulations on your news.
Brian Walbey: We still have a couple of villages near us with red boxes Linda, this was a posting of mine from 2008 http://brianaw.shutterchance.com/photoblog/The_Old_Telephone_Box_/
Fast becoming extinct Brian..but you have a good shot of it for the future.Great news of the wedding..but you could get a headache or two!
Brian Walbey: Not many of these boxes about now Ron, I posted this one in 2008, I think before you joined SC http://brianaw.shutterchance.com/photoblog/The_Old_Telephone_Box_/ Thanks for your good wishes.
It was worth waiting for though Brian.

My grand-daughter, who "can't afford to get married" tells me that to have the full white-wedding-church-and-reception bit would cost at least £14,000 but she has pared down her plans to £7,000! I suggested they go to a reg office telling everyone later. Then they could use that money for something useful.
Brian Walbey: Thanks Sheila. No doubt all will be come clear in a while, they are planning a trip to Australia before a 2011 wedding apparently.
Congrats on the news Brian.Have wedding in phone box, keep the cost down.
Brian Walbey: Just room for the two of them and no guests Micjael, it's cheaper that way smile
