A Great Central Visit 3/6

I said during a recent posting we visited the Great Central Railway at Loughborough recently.  There was very little happening but I used my new G10 to take a few shots anyway and this week you will see some of them.

The steam locomotive you caught sight of in yesterdays image was 42085, the Fairburn 2-6-4T tank which has recently been totally rebuilt, including new side tanks, at Loughborough on behalf of its owners, the Lakeside & haverthwaite Railway in the Lake District.

We are away until today, I will endeavour to catch up with your comments and postings later on.

Idling steam locos make the most restful of industrial sounds...
Brian Walbey: I agree Ray and also traction engines ticking over as well.
I love the glimpse of the elegant dining car through the window.
Brian Walbey: All ready for the Saturday Lunchtime dining train Sheila.

Must be a smooth ride, the wine glasses are out already
Brian Walbey: They run a Saturday lunchtime dining train Tony, plus of course the evening and Sundays as well.
Waiting for passengers, I would quite like to be one of them.
Brian Walbey: It is quite a nice run Sheila.

Those were the luxury days of the train era, Brian. Lots of happy memories, I'm sure.

Welcome back home.
Brian Walbey: Thanks Ginnie. The weekend lunchtime or evening dining trains on this railway are very good, if somewhat expensive.
Superb capture Brian. It must be great travelling in this one!
Brian Walbey: Thanks Richard. It is a nice run and the dining opportunities, if one can afford them, are excellent.
A timeless shot Brian..even the people look dated.
Brian Walbey: Thanks Ron. They always seem to dress for the period at the GCR.

I assume that the guy with the crisps will not be dining in the Restaurant Car (or perhaps he is and has just seen the menu!). Good to proper catering on the train (although they could have used a classier loco!).
Brian Walbey: The meals on the Lunch and Evening dining trains are excellent Alan. The loco comes from the Lakeside and Haverthwaite Railway in the Lake District and has been completely rebuilt at Loughborough over the last few months, right down to new side tanks. That is the only time it has ever been away from its home base.

I am intrigued by the view of the dining car through the window with the table all set for dinner. The age of elegance and first-class travel contrasts well with the working men hanging around outside!
Ingrid
Brian Walbey: This set of carriages was all set up for the Saturday Dining experience special Ingrid. A couple of these people were the engine crew.
