photoblog image Alnwick Castle

Alnwick Castle

Next door to  Alnwick Gardens, that I featured two days ago is Alnwick Castle, the home of the Duke and Duchess of Northumberland, who also own the gardens.

Ii is a very old castle but has been kept in fine condition and a visit is well worth while.

More details are at http://www.alnwickcastle.com/

It's unusual for the Duke of the county to actually live in the county. I'm thinking of Arundel in west Sussex, home to the Duke of Norfolk, and Chatworth, Derbyshire, the Duke of Devonshire. Another lovely collage showing many aspects of the fine buliding.
Brian Walbey: Your right there Alan, I've never really unerstood that. By the way, the castle is next door to the gardens and presumably might also be open when you go up in the winter.

All unknown to me but it looks grand Brian
Brian Walbey: It was grand Chris, and in good condition, mind you the Duke and his family still live in part of it.
Alnwick Castle is indeed magnificent Brian and this is a fine collage.
Brian Walbey: Thanks very much Bill.

I have not been inside but it looks great from the outside Brian.
Brian Walbey: It is quite an impressive castle Chad, I didn't go inside to see the paintings, furniture etc.but was told it was excellent by those who did.
