At the Garden Centre (1/10)

Well after that long haul with my old monochrome work I return to colour and a two week portfolio taken over recent years at two Garden Centres, always a good place to go for a source of pictures.

This was late in February and they still had snowdrops for sale.   I suspect by the time you'd got them home and planted them they would not be far off ready to hibernate until next winter.

You're not wrong. They certainly look a little sad....
Cheers
Rob
Brian Walbey: I bet they didn't last long Rob, thanks for your comment.

I don't think I've ever seen a snowdrop up close and personal, Brian, so I delight to see them in whatever shape they're to be found!
Brian Walbey: They really are delightful little flowers Ginnie although they have mostly gone by now. Thanks for your comment.

In pots - how strange!
Brian Walbey: Very strange Chris, especially as they are partly out.
Everyone's ona springtime mission.
Brian Walbey: And why not Chad, let's hope we get a nice summer as well.

Would never have even thought of going to a garden centre, great idea
Brian Walbey: There's all sorts of odds and bits to be seen at places like this zed. Thanks for your comment.
They will probably last about 2 days! Strange thing to buy in full bloom!
Brian Walbey: No doubt they were the end of the line for 2009 Bill.

Imagine how many pots you would have to buy to get a decent carpet of snowdrops! Better to buy them as bulbs I would have thought.
Ingrid
Brian Walbey: I couldn't agree more Ingrid but you know how garden centres like to cash in.
I would have never thought of buying them in pots! They look sad to me!
Brian Walbey: I'm sure they are more than sad now Richard, this was taken in February.

I've never seen cultivated snowdrops before; I always assume that they were wild! The red pots provide a good contrast.
Brian Walbey: Thanks for your comment Alan, we hada nice show a few weeks back in our front garden, all gone now of course.
It would cost me a fortune..unless I went on my own..How did you manage it Brian? The lighting was good for this shot. Nice one.
Brian Walbey: Maureen and garden centres are like magnets, I just left her to it and went off with the camera Ron.

All the snowdrops I've lovingly planted in our garden have gone into permanent hibernation - never to be seen again!

Apparently they should always be planted "in the green" as you're showing them, rather than as bulbs (corms?), but it hasn't made any difference to my attempts. They're obviously quite fickle plants.
Brian Walbey: Have another go next year Ellie, they are delightful little plants.
