MONOCHROME MANIA - PART 1 #14

Filey Foreshore

Shortly after our son was born we took a holiday near Filey on the Yorkshire coast between Scarborough and Bridlington. With Chris still being a baby the chance to do much serious photography did not arise but I managed to grab this shot of the fishing boats pulled up on the beach.

In the background is the famous Filey Brigg, a promontory of land that juts out in to the sea. More details and pictures of the Brigg and the resort can be found at http://www.lealman.fsnet.co.uk/filey.html

(All of the pictures in this series were taken on B&W.film, developed and printed by me, and sometimes entered into Club competitions.  This is original monochrome work and the only digital bit is scanning the prints into Photoshop and preparing them for display here.)

I upgraded to Version 7 of Photoshop Elements last week from Version 4 so am enjoying getting to grips with the latest editing facilities included.

A good record shot Brian: I wonder if you'dstill find any sort of fishing industry there now...
Brian Walbey: We went here a few years back for a quick visit and I seem to remember a few boats stil drawn up on the beach Chris.
We had a holiday in Filey when the children were young. Great beach, great fish and chips!!
Brian Walbey: Quite agree with you Bill, we stayed at the Blue Dolphin Holiday Camp just down the road in 1977.
This certainly gives an air of uniformity, Brian. I wonder what the actual colours were?
Brian Walbey: They were mainly reds and blues Chad, I've got some colour slides you might see on SC one day.

Hey those boots are back in fashion Briansmile
Brian Walbey: There's nothing new under the sun Tracy, especially in ladies fashions, thanks fpr your comment.
A very nice perspective. Fine shot Brian!
Brian Walbey: Thanks Richard, boats are always interesting things to get close to.

It's one of those timeless sort of pictures Brian, even the people going fishing would look much the same today, down to the rolled down waders.
Love the little detail around the boat numbers
Brian Walbey: Thanks Ellie, I've got some old slides I took of these boats, perhaps I will dig them out one day.
