34039 at Loughborough

My final picture of the week is yet another train departing, once again, from the Great Central Railway at Loughborough.

This was one of Oliver Bullied's West Country class pacifics used on the Southern Region of British Railways and it is currently at Loughborough undergoing another rebuild after being originally restored their in the first place.

I hope you will all have a good weekend, don't spend too much money on those goodies for Christmas and , all being well, I will be back next week.

This brings back happy memories Brian: I remember seeing this one at Bath Green Park a few times
Brian Walbey: Bath Green was shut by the time I made my only visit to Bath I think Chris, or was about to shut. Glad to have resurrected some nice memories.
Superb shot Brian. The steam is fabulous here!
Brian Walbey: Thanks Richard, I did "burn in" the smoke a little bit.

Thank you Brian, nice capture - have you enhanced the smoke?
Brian Walbey: Thanks Graham, you've caught me out, yes I did enhance the smoke a little. Another train on Monday which you might enjoy.
Saw this and all the others in this class down on the Central station Southampton duing one glorious holiday at me Grannies about 1960. richard
Brian Walbey: Sounds like a good holiday Richard, the only time I saw these was on holidays to Weymouth with my parents. Thanks for your comment.

I can remember these coming through Southampton on the regular Weymouth - London services. Your image has a timeless quality to it with the semaphore signals and the blood and custard coaches. Love the smoke coming out of the chimney as she works hard pulling away.
Brian Walbey: Glad you like this Alan, I had the A4's you saw here on Monday and Wednesday and you had these wonderful beasts when you were young. Long time ago now, thank goodness some survived.
Boscastle. I loved the Bulleid Pacifics. Great smoke in this picture Brian
Brian Walbey: Thanks Bill, I prefer them without the "spam can" outline, they look very poerful like this.
Lovely shot. I think I travelled down to Cornwall in about 1955 in one of those.
Brian Walbey: Thanks Janet, you very probably did, that was at the time I travelled down to Dorset behind these on holidays with my parents.
Very atmospheric Brian, and a fine engine to boot.
Brian Walbey: Yes indeed Les, it was a major restoration at Lougborough that got this back in working order in the first place.

Rather wonderful, nostalgia at its best
Brian Walbey: Thanks for your comment Ellie, hopefully nothing in this picture dates it for other than the 50's.
coolllllllllllllllll
Brian Walbey: Thanks for your comment Kavita.
Cool image. You don't see them so often anymore.
Brian Walbey: Thanks for your comment Paul, this particular engine is now back in the shed being overhauled once again.
Cracking steam train shot
Brian Walbey: Thanks Pamela, I only live a few miles from here so can get along to see and photograph the trains quite often if I wish.
A real puffing billy..Lovely shot..caught at the right moment !.
Brian Walbey: Thanks Ronald, at this spot I always tried to get the locomotive just in line with the signal gantry, this time it worked.
