34105 at Quorn

I will continue this week with more shots from the "Miscellaneous" folder, and by the way, it is a big folder.

I took this on the Great Central Railway near Quorn and it is the Southern Region West Country Class Bullied Pacific Swanage.  This was built at Brighton and came into service in March,1950 and was withdrawn in October, 1964, not a very long life really for a locomotive of this nature.

Fortunately it was taken into preservation but, as usual, in any picture of this nature these days there is always what I call "loons" hanging out of the windows spoiling the picture.

LOL at the loons, Brian. I LOVE the effect of the railroad track extending out of your frame. That is downright creative!
Brian Walbey: Thanks Ginnie, it was a technique I read about years ago. It needs the right picture to be effective.
I have always had a great affection for these engines. It is a shame you can't hear the distinctive sound they made. I like the extended track too Brian. Nice idea
Brian Walbey: Thanks Bill, a technique I picked up from a magazine a while ago.

I agree with Ginnie and Bill the extended track into your frame works well. Good work.
Brian Walbey: Thanks Tracy, this technique needs the right picture to work well.
Superb presentation of this beautiful engine with the track extension Brian. Well done.
Brian Walbey: Thanks Richard, I must try this again if a suitable picture comes along.

Yes, amazing presentation. Could be part of a set of royal mail limited edition stamps. Utterly superb smile
Brian Walbey: Thanks for your very generous comment Paul.
A delight Sir: I have seen this locomotive on the Mid Hants line. Another two came back to life last month after over 40 years - 34046 Braunton (which I remember at Bath Green Park circa 1965) on the WSR and 34070 Manston (I remember it at Salisbury in 1962-3) at Swanage. I don't actually remember 34105 at all - but I must have seen her somewhere because I saw them all!

I'm thinking of making a time machine out of some old electrical equipment & a wardrobe. If it work I hope you will accompany me back to Templecombe - around 1961. Whimper...
Brian Walbey: For quite a long time Manston stood out in the open at the GCR at Loughborough, (near me), with nothing being done, then it was finally moved away to where it has since been restored. Let me know when the wardrobe is ready and I'll nip down :-D
wonderful shot and processing Briansmile
Brian Walbey: Thanks for your comment Tim.

Unfortunately I'd probably be one of the loons hanging out of the window, to spoil your picture wink
Brian Walbey: Nice ladies are exempt from my "loon" hang up Ellie, I'm sure you could only enhance the picture.
very well done. like the coming out, in your face look. quite true (and amusing too) what you had to say about the 'loons'
Brian Walbey: I have done a few picture with this what is now called "Out of Border" effect.
