photoblog image Altar, Salisbury Cathedral

Altar, Salisbury Cathedral

This is the first in short series from my Miscellaneous folder featuring bits and pieces of religious buildings round the country.

We start with one of the altars, not the main one, in Salisbury Cathedral. We only had a quick visit here some years ago but without doubt it is one of the best cathedrals in the country, and, I believe, it has the tallest spire of any building of this type as well.

Lots more details and a gallery of images can be found at the cathedrals own website at http://www.salisburycathedral.org.uk/index.php

These are things to just stare at, Brian, and be in awe. The intricate handiwork blows my mind.
Brian Walbey: Thanks Ginnie, this was one of the most attractive altars in the cathedral.

Just look how colourful this alter is, it reminds me of some of the side alters in the Vatican Brian.
Brian Walbey: Thanks Tracy, this is not even the High Altar of the cathedral but all the same it is very attractive.
Very fine Brian. I went there last year to seek out Green Men - and found absolutely loads of them
Brian Walbey: Thanks for your comment Chris.

It is indeed a beautiful cathedral - the spire is justly famous. This is nice and clear for an interior shot.

Brian Walbey: Thanks Ingrid, I was pleased with this considering it was only taken with a small 4Mp Olympus compact which unfortunately cried enough last year.

The love and inspiration behind the craftsmanship glows through, doesn't it.
Brian Walbey: I agree Ellie, this is a beautiful piece of work. Thanks for your comment.
Have been to Salisbury many times Brian but nevehad chance to go into the Cathedral. This is a beautiful altar.
Brian Walbey: Thanks Bill, it is nice isn't it. Next time you are there make sure you go in.
Fine capture Brian. Colours and details are superb!
Brian Walbey: Thanks Richard, and this isn't even the High Altar of the Cathedral.

That table looks very humble against that backdrop, Brian.
Brian Walbey: I should have been a bit nifty and moved the table out of the way Chad for a few moments. Thanks for your comment.
