photoblog image Daily Mirror Building

Daily Mirror Building

I worked in London until 1977 and part of that time was in John Street, just off High Holborn.

I used my old Praktica to get this shot of the Daily Mirror building at the bottom of Holborn and have done a conversion and then brought back in the red.

I have no idea if the building is still in use by the newspaper or anyone else, perhaps one of you London workers could update me on that.

This is a fine piece of history. I like the b/w conversion with the red - nice work.
Ingrid
Brian Walbey: Certainly a long time ago in the history of my working life Ingrid, it took ages to pick out all of the individual rectangles to bring the colour through.

You have done a cracking job on this Brian
Brian Walbey: Thanks Bill, it took a while but I got there in the end.
I'm old enough to remember when the Daily Mirror was a force to be reckoned with. I used to like Cassandra
Brian Walbey: I never read the Mirror on a regular basis Chris, if I had my dad would have banished me to goodness knows where!

This is superb, Brian. Selective colouring and the natural symmetry work so well
Brian Walbey: Thanks Paul, but nobody yet has told me if The Mirror still use it, assuming it is still there.

The treatment works well Brian, and the picture is not bad either, well seen.
Brian Walbey: Thanks Les, seems a long time ago that I took this, but a mere stripling of a youth.

The building was knocked down some time after Captain Bob went overboard. It was replaced with a Sir Norman Foster designed headquarters building for Sainsbury's
Brian Walbey: Thanks for that bit of information Patrick, I can rest easy in my bed now knowing that smile
