Rothley Departure

This picture finishes the week off to coincide with the biggest steam railway event of the year on the Great Central Railway from Loughborough to Leicester.

This was taken some years ago and shows class 8F 48305 double heading with Merchant Navy class 35005 Canadian Pacific as they depart from Rothley for the short run through to Leicester North.

The gala will include the newbuild class A1 Tornado about which a lot has appeared in the media, along with newly restored locos Oliver Cromwell, Leander and Lord Nelson together with the usual selection of home based locomotives.

Full details of the gala are available at http://www.gcrailway.co.uk/Events.aspx?ID=145

Have a great weekend, back on Monday.

I want to be there too Brian - I WANT TO SEE TORNADO!
Brian Walbey: I saw it on Monday Chris although it only had its nose poking out of the shed. I have decided not to go for various reasons, it will be horrendously packed I would imagine.

I take it you will be there Brian so enjoy your weekendsmile
Brian Walbey: Hi Tracy, no I have decided not to go although it is a really big event. A friend is calling in on Saturday and I have other things arranged for Sunday, plus they have almost doubled the normal admission price as well.
Wish I could go. I assume you will be there, if so please get some pictures of Tornado!
Brian Walbey: Sorry Bill, I'm not going. Other things on this weekend plus admission has gone up by £10 above normal and, as I'm a paid up supporter who can usually get in for nought, £24 was a bit steep. I did go down on Monday and saw Tornado poking out of the shed together with the other locos in use.
Have fun, Brian.
Brian Walbey: Tha ks Chad, I have actually decided not to go for reasons I have outlined to others. I did get to see Tornado in the shed on Monday.
I guess you'll be there ... choo choo. richard
Brian Walbey: No I won't be there at the weekend Richard, other things on and they have virtually doubled the admission price to about £24 which is a bit steep. I went down and took a few shots at the locoshed on Monday, that will have to do.
I like the way you take care of the industrial heritage in Britain. Good shot.
Brian Walbey: Thanks Albert, we have a lot of these heritage steam railways all over the U.K., no doubt you have some in Spain.

Brian, I know these are your big friends, mine too, love these magnificent machines, thanks for sharing these beauties with us.
Brian Walbey: I wish I had gone down to the railway this weekend Astrid to see these big beasts, it is only a short drive away. Sometimes other things take priority, plus they almost doubled the normal admission price to £24 which is a lot of money. I went down and took some pictures the other day when they were standing in the yard instead.

Superb, Brian! Although I prefer narrow gauge, there is no denying the beauty of these which just shout power. A great shot to include the plumes of steam and the signal. Thanks for mentioning two of my own favourites - Oliver Cromwell and Lord Nelson.
Brian Walbey: Glad you are pleased with this shot Alan, it has been a superb weekends weather for the gala.

The 8F always looks good Brian, shame about the GCR raising the admission price this weekend, probably will put a few people off.
Brian Walbey: I suspect because Tornado is there Les it will have been busy this weekend at the gala, it leaves on Wednesday to go to York and the NRM. The 8F was running as well this weekend I believe. I may go down and have a stroll round the yeard tomorrow, as a supporter I can get in for £Nil on normal days.

It's a rather good picture Brian.
Brian Walbey: Thanks Ellie, it's nice to know young ladies can appreciate train pictures as well, Astrid did anyway.

It never ceases to amaze me, Brian, how these trains still enamor us!
Brian Walbey: I've been a train enthusiast, (not anorak) most of my life Ginnie including following my father in to employment for some years on British Railways.
Fine loco shot Brian, replete with smoke and steam.
Brian Walbey: Thanks Ian, this was taken during the winter when the cold air gives lots of nice steam.
