Ropes - #3

On my theme of canal boat items I came across this selection of bell ropes hanging in a bunch on one of the boats at the Loughborough Canal and Boat Festival.

I took several shots of these but felt this close up of the knots was the most interesting.

I'm immediately reminded of school colors, Brian: My school (U. of Michigan) is on the right; next to that is Georgia Tech.... What a lovely, colorful grouping of ropes!
Brian Walbey: I suppose they are a bit like school colours Ginnie, they are actually small bell ropes.

Brian, very well spotted, it seems to me this was all new ropes, for normally it is dirty and weather beaten, love colours, nice composition
Brian Walbey: The man was making new sets of ropes like these which are used to hang from the warning bell on the back of the canal boat. Such a nice array of colours I felt.
The colours are nicely matching Brian. Very well spotted and captured!
Brian Walbey: Thanks Richard, it is nice that they ropes amd knots are not all in a straight line I feel.

I love the very vibrant colours in this. I wonder when this became "fashionable" replacing the old "working" ropes from days of old? Or were ropes always this colourful when new?
Brian Walbey: Whatever the colour of the ropes in the old days Alan I bet they were pretty grubby after a few days use.
Love the splash of vibrant colours Brian.
Brian Walbey: Thanks Bill, it was the colours that first caught my eye.

It is interesting, and reminds me of my attempts at macrame and fancy knotting too
Brian Walbey: I don't think I learnt knots like these when I was in the Cubs years and years ago Ellie.
i see what you mean Brian, i love the rich colours and textures .
Brian Walbey: Many thanks Ryan.
