photoblog image Saint Giles #1

Saint Giles #1

So here we go with this weeks theme which will include 16 photographs, in 5 collages, of the Catholic Church of Saint Giles in Cheadle, Staffordshire.  I had read about this church, and its particularly ornate decoration, and as we passed through the town a couple of weeks ago we stopped to have a look.

There is a little box at the back in which you can deposit a £1 coin and all the lights come on for 20 minutes. I took 36 shots in that time without starting to get down to photographing the finer detail, all hand held and using only the flash on the camera.

We will move from the rear of the church to the High Altar during the week.

I just read your text to Donica and said, "What a cool idea!" I have never seen or heard of that, Brian. Too bad more places don't off that same bonanza. Of course, all the other tourists benefit from your own £1 coin. I look forward to this series!
Brian Walbey: Thanks Ginnie, it is a beautiful church to be in so enjoy my efforts to portray it this week.

Great collection of images
Brian Walbey: Thankyou Vintage, hopefully you'll look in and enjoy the rest of the week.
It looks fantastic Brian. I'm looking forward to the rest of these. We have a Catholic church in Droitwich The Scared Heart which is famous for its' mosaics. I have to confess in over 30 years of living in Droitwich I've only been in to have a look once!!
Brian Walbey: I'm glad you like this Bill, it is an amazing church. I really only captured general shots in the time available and didn't even start on the side aisles and chapels and the close-up detail.

lovely collage Brian each shot must be worth a showing of its own, fantastic looking church.
Brian Walbey: Thanks Tim, there were too many to post each seperately, people would tire of seeing them, so I have grouped them in collages just for this week.

Very nice too, Brian.. a £1 well spent! I'm amazed that these were handheld.
Brian Walbey: I hadn't even got my tripod in the car Alan, although there was quite a bit of light with all the church lights on.

What a tremendous place, great images in difficult circumstances by the looks of it . Great work Brian.
Brian Walbey: Thanks John, I enjoyed this shoot, hopefully you will enjoy the rest of the weeks angles on this church.
