On 11th.August, 1968 the last scheduled steam hauled trains were run by British Railways in the U.K. An excursion called the "Fifteen Guinea Special" was run in the North West of England and one of the engines used was Oliver Cromwell.
A re-enactment of that excursion is being run on 10th.August this year to celebrate the 40th.anniversary and Oliver Cromwell is being refurbished for this train at the Great Central Railway, Loughborough.
Th photos in this collage were taken on 24th, July, 2004, (my ?0th.birthday), at Quorn before the engines overhaul began, the funds coming from an appeal to the readers of Steam Railway magazine. You will note a mix of colour and B&W in these photos. The overhaul is now nearly complete and it is planned to relaunch the locomotive at the May Bank Holiday weekend.
