70013 Oliver Cromwell

On 11th.August, 1968 the last scheduled steam hauled trains were run by British Railways in the U.K. An excursion called the "Fifteen Guinea Special" was run in the North West of England and one of the engines used was Oliver Cromwell.

A re-enactment of that excursion is being run on 10th.August this year to celebrate the 40th.anniversary and Oliver Cromwell is being refurbished for this train at the Great Central Railway, Loughborough.

Th photos in this collage were taken on 24th, July, 2004, (my ?0th.birthday), at Quorn before the engines overhaul began, the funds coming from an appeal to the readers of Steam Railway magazine. You will note a mix of colour and B&W in these photos. The overhaul is now nearly complete and it is planned to relaunch the locomotive at the May Bank Holiday weekend.

Nice collage Brian. This should be quite an event.
Brian Walbey: Thanks BIll, I bet there will be a lot of enthusiasts down there, I will probably wait until the rush has died down during the week.

Brian, this is anice set of fine pictures, it will be quite an event to see this one 'on the run' again, thank you for your information with it.
Brian Walbey: Hopefully I will get to see it run once it is fully working again, and get more photos of course.
A fine tribute to a fine engine Brian, I was at Quorn on the 24th July 2004 as well must look out the pictures, co-incidence. I'm looking forward to a range of events celebrating, is that the right word, the End of Steam. If my memory serves me correctly the Fifteen Guinea Special ran from Liverpool Lime Street station.
Brian Walbey: WE may have crossed each others paths on the 24th.Les, and I'm glad you like the collage. A Google search will tell you all about the 1968 event and the one taking place this year.

love this collage Brian with a mix of fine shots and clever use of selective coloursmile
Brian Walbey: I'm getting a habit of doing this selective colour Tim, providing it is a fairly easy one of course. Thanks for liking it.

A lovely collage, Brian. I like use of the red buffer beam t oanchor the imaegs top left to bottom right. Its a great testament to the skill of restorers that these great machines still live.
Brian Walbey: I'm glad you like it Alan, it should be great to see this engine in steam again.
All round amazing piece
Brian Walbey: Many thanks, this is a beautiful engine.
