photoblog image From The Competition Folder 4/28

From The Competition Folder 4/28

A series of images I have used in my Camera Club competitions that I have not previously posted.

LION

I took this many years ago when I worked not far from what was then called County Hall in London and this is one of the large Lion sculptures at the building.  This was one of my early digital image attempts and to be honest I didn't make much of a job of putting that false eye in, just goes to show we can't win them all.

Really botched this one, young Brian...more blown highlights than visible detail... no subtlety with the shadows... eye like a half-sucked humbug discarded by a vandal!

Otherwise...promising composition, with heroic perspective.

Keep trying, young Man...

[comments by Ray the Judge]

[grin...that was a bit of fun!]
Brian Walbey: Bl***y heck I'm glad your not coming to judge at my club! smile Actually it is a pretty awful image, a scan from a moderately poor slide to start off with. It will never actually be put before a judge methinks.
The eye is perfect Brian... some days you just have to take your best shot... this one turned our great....petersmile
Brian Walbey: Thanks Peter, be honest though, it isn't one of my best.

This series is nicely varied, Brian - I am enjoying it
Brian Walbey: Thanks Lisl.
I kind of like that it looks like the eye is lit from inside!
Brian Walbey: Yes I suppose it does.

A lovely bit of carving but I see what you mean regarding the eye Brian
Brian Walbey: Looks a bit naff with the eye doesn't it.
The lion seems to have an evil eye Brian.
Brian Walbey: Indeed Chad, I doubt I will ever enter this one in a competition.
It is great that you've grown so much. Think of it that way.
Brian Walbey: Indeed Mary, I don't think this will ever make a competition.
It has a certain retro',S.F, look to it Brian.
Brian Walbey: It was a scan from an old slide Frank, nit the best of starting points.
well I think it is the black background which makes the image Brian!
Brian Walbey: Yes it wouldn't bee too bad if I hadn't messed about putting the naff eye on it.
A great subject though Brian! smile
Brian Walbey: I think it would look better in B.& W.without the naff eye.
Mr Dr Who than CGI Brian grin
Brian Walbey: I think I would class it as naff to be honest Bill, it will never grace a competition I fear.
The same demon eyes as the anti Blair poster created some years back.
Brian Walbey: Except I done it first Martin, I see that "character" is considering coming back into politics, my lips are sealed!
Nevertheless, a good-un, Brian.
Brian Walbey: Thanks Tom but on reflection I doubt it will be used in a competition.

Hhahah... I expect that your editing skills have improved no end since then. It makes it look quite scary!
Brian Walbey: I hope they have Alan, it was a bit of a naff thing to try.
Still has a certain look of power, though, Brian.
Brian Walbey: Indeed it is quite a powerful sculpture Graeme.
this is a terminator lion, perhaps you were inspired by that arnie movie?
