Enginemen

We spent last Sunday at a very cold and dull Churnet Valley Railway near Leek, Staffs. Having seen Richard's recent candid work I thought I would have a go ,as it is not a subject I usually take, and grabbed this shot as we were walking out of the cafeteria at Froghall Station.

My only problem is that I can't decide whether it works best in colour or mono so I will leave you to decide. One or two more shots will follow in due course.

I actually prefer the colour version, although I would probably have converted it to b&w too. Perhaps the mono needs to be darker and grittier?
Brian Walbey: I like the colour also Bill but will keep in mind yours and others comments about the mono version.
Echo Bill's words for me too- B+W, with a little film grain, contrast and dark areas for a bit of drama!
Brian Walbey: Thanks David, I might try your suggestions if I decide to enter it a competition at my club.

I admit I I go with Bill too, I love the scene though.
Brian Walbey: THanks Astrid, I will "play" with this image some more I think. Brian.
Bill must have read my mind ... richard
Brian Walbey: THanks Richard, I might redo the mono version some time.

I'm with Bill on this; the mono version seems to lack contrast to me. However, it is good to see them posted side by side t oallow us to make a comparison.
Brian Walbey: I muyst admit Alan, it's not one of my best monos, I done it in a hurry to get it on to SC.

LOL Brian this is about 10mins from my house by car, it takes me about 1hr 45mins to walk, which I do regularly and then across the canalsmile
I am also with the others on this onesmile
Brian Walbey: We think this is a very nice area Tracy, you are lucky to live near there. We are about an hour or so away by road near Loughborough.
B+W for me Brian - but then it usually is. David.
Brian Walbey: I've noticed you do a lot of mono David, I have only done mono Photoshop since I joined SC. Brian.

The thing that makes the color work better for me is it draws the eye to the people in the train more than in the black and white.
Brian Walbey: Thanks Jewlya, I've had a second looktoday I think your are right about the colour one.
je ne sias pas si je préfère la version couleur ou noir et blanc... finalement, la juxtaposition des deux est une bonne idée.
Brian Walbey: Thanks Marietom, I gather you prefer the colour.
