photoblog image Velvet Shank Fungi

Velvet Shank Fungi

Another shot of fungi which grows at the bottom of our garden each year. This I believe is the Velvet Shank. With its lovely glossy golden orange caps, this mushroom is quite commonly seen on stumps of decaying hard wood growing in clusters. Also know as the winter mushroom as it is one of the few mushrooms that can be seen during the winter months through to early spring.

It's really pretty, isn't it!
Brian Walbey: Like all fungi, once it started to rot it looked horrible.

Ils ont de très belles couleurs.
Brian Walbey: It hasn't appeared this year so perhaps it has died off if that's what they do.

Very pretty to look at but I expect horrible to taste or poisonous
Brian Walbey: No chance would I ever eat any fungi unless it comes from a supermarket of greengrocers to be honest.
It is a glorious colour Brian

It makes for a fine photo but I would not like to touch it and certainly not try to eat it.
Brian Walbey: My thoughts also Alan.
Oh my! You get to see this every year. How fortunate.
Brian Walbey: Unfortunately it didn't come out again this year.
and it is also edible. Sin does not grow in my garden. smile
Brian Walbey: I wouldn't chance eating them to be honest just in case!
