Isle of Man Tourist Trophy Races, 1970 3/5

It is the Tourist Trophy Motorcycle races, which first started in 1907, in the Isle of Man this week so a few pictures until Friday from when I went to the races in 1970. These are scans from 48 year old colour slides, mostly converted to B.& W.as the slide quality of some has started to fall, and taken with the simple camera shown below.

Curry - 125cc. Ultra-Lighweight TT race - 6th. position

Hobson - 750cc. Sidecar TT race - 7th. position

These images were all taken with the camera detailed below:

You certainly managed an impression of speed here, Brian. How spoilt we are today with equipment.
Brian Walbey: I was quite pleased with these two shots once I'd scanned them. The thing is I remember all the riders in this series just as if it was yesterday, showing my age!
Nicely captured!
Brian Walbey: Thanks Elizabeth, i was particularly pleased with these two.
On devine la vitesse.
Brian Walbey: Even in those days they would have been going faster than I would have cared to round those bends!

In the lower picture you can really see how the sidecar person has to use his weight.
Brian Walbey: I was always of the opinion that you had to be slightly nutty to ride in the 'chair' as it was called.
Bet these all are old geezers by now, Brian, like the rest of us. HA! I wonder if they are still tootin' around like this??
Brian Walbey: I guess some of the guys in this series will no longer be with us, one of the riders in tomorrows posting was killed on the track in the race where I took the picture, but indeed they will all be in our age bracket if they are still about, some of the riders from that time still ride at classic bike meetings in the parades.
I still think sidecar riders are barking mad!

Nice action shot and impressive without modern technology
Brian Walbey: Thanks Beth.
Well worth digitizing, Brian.
Brian Walbey: Thanks Tom, I'm showing some more later in the year when other events take place.

We all had our heroes from our more youthful days.
Brian Walbey: Indeed we did Alan, when I was a regular spectator one either rooted for Mike Hailwood or Phil Read, I chose Phil.

Brian Walbey: Thanks Astrid.
