Coniston Church 4/5

Looking back down the church to the West end again it is apparent that it is well looked after, even the balcony looks fairly tidy. Just to the right, her left, of Maureen busy reading a leaflet you can see a decorated window, more about that tomorrow. I hope I didn't disturb the lady who was sitting there obviously in quiet contemplation.

I really like that wooden balcony, Brian, and it looks like the balcony floor is sloping so that everyone get a view.
Brian Walbey: You might be right about that balcony floor, very often they are stepped.
I like the dark wood against the white walls and ceiling. It's lovely!
Brian Walbey: The different colours go well together.

The lady in quiet contemplation might be remembering the dear departed
Brian Walbey: Indeed Chris, I always feel a bit awkward if somebody is at prayer when I photograph in churches, for them it is a very private time.

There appears to be a coat of arms hanging on the balcony Brian.
Brian Walbey: It is a coat of arms but what for I don't know unless it is for the local lord of the manor who paid a lot of money out for church building etc.

the plain white walls and ceiling are a counter point to the pews and the floor, Brian. i like this scene.
Brian Walbey: It is a very fine little village church and everything seems to fit together nicely if you know what I mean.
It looks like the proscenium of a theater, a welcoming place
Brian Walbey: Yes it is really nice isn't it.
it's good to show us what the priest or minister is looking at for a change Brian.... nicely framed as usual....petersmile
Brian Walbey: I always think a shot back down the church helps to show the whole building not just the business end.

That looks like an unusual Royal Coat of Arms, Brian
Brian Walbey: It is a coat of arms and even though I enlerged it on my monitor I don't know what it is for other then, perhaps, the Lord of the Manor who might have given a lot of money to the church in past times.
It is all very clean and neat Brian. I rather like the balcony
Brian Walbey: I really enjoyed this little church, so simple and functional compared with some places.
Good to see they've kept the original seating!
Brian Walbey: There are very different points of view about seating like this and lots of churches are replacing them with chairs. Ont the one hand it seems a shame and on the other it does allow the floor of the church to be used for other activities needing more room.

I feel uncomfortable taking photos in a church if there is anyone quietly praying (presumably); I feel I'm intruding. Mind you, perhaps, it is likely to be a packed house on the Sunday and the lady was keen to ensure to had a seat? smile
Brian Walbey: I know what you mean, I have often given up on a photo because of people taking a few quiet moments for whatever reason. Quite a lot of the regulars turn up early at our church and for some, if somebody else, a visitor perhaps, is sitting where they usually do, there face teels a story. Mind you we have a couple of people who regularly walk in every Sunday morning without fail at least 5 minutes late.
