GCR Gala October 2016 3/6

Ex GWR Class 4500 2-6-2T No.4566 was a guest engine at the gala. Two shots of it here at Loughborough as it is being prepared for its next journey on a passenger train to Leicester North.

Fine shots of the preparation, Brian.
Brian Walbey: Thanks Ray, I watched a couple of different locomotives being serviced at the end of the platform rather than taking them back to the engine shed.

Super engines, the mainstay of GW branch lines for decades..
Brian Walbey: I, of course, didn't see many of these being an LNER man in my spotting days, I guess these are the GWR equivalents of N2's and L1's which used to haul local trains round my way, with B1's on the Cambridge/Kings Cross expresses. My trusty 1957/8 Ian Allen Combined Edition (yes I still have it) tells me the only ones of these I saw were 4507 and 4526.

Fabulous series of this gala. This is the real deal as I always say! Fabulous pictures. A joy to the eye.
Brian Walbey: Thanks Astrid, 3 more Saturdays to go, I've tried to make this short series a bit more varied, as you will see if you have chance to look in next Saturday.

Nice pictures, Brian, even though I am not a fan, though it could grow on me!
Brian Walbey: Thanks Lisl, nice to have you ladies looking at my railway pictures. It is surprising just how many ladies work at the heritage railways in their spare time, and not just doing refreshments of gift shop things but have actually qualified to drive the trains as well, and do maintenance work etc.
A fine depiction of big boys toys, Brian.
Brian Walbey: Thanks Frank, a class of loco that Chris has easily identified from where he grew up.
Fine little loco that is based on the SVR I think
Brian Walbey: I never saw these when I was a youngster and indeed, this is based at the SVR.
A workhorse of an engine!
Brian Walbey: Old film of the GWR shows these little engines hauling all sorts on branch lines.
