St.Ives Bridge

Taken during our St.Ives visit in May this is the famous bridge in the centre of this attractive Cambridgeshire town.  Once again the weather was poor so I have done my best.  Incidentally this is where my son, who I featured on 11th.September, started his interest in fishing, the Quay is packed with young lads fishing at weekends.  We lived here from 1978 until 1989 before moving to the East Midlands where we are now.

Formerly known as Slepe, in the old county of Huntingdonshire, this ancient riverside market town is now named after the Persian Bishop, St. Ivo. St. Ives, now within Cambridgeshire, stands on the River Great Ouse and is famous for this bridge and the chapel of St.Ledger on it.  There used to be an upper storey to the chapel, now long gone.

I had quite a good night at my Camera Club on Tuesday and although I didn't actually win I got three Highly Commendeds for http://brianaw.shutterchance.com/photoblog/Northumbrian_Nightfall_/  and http://brianaw.shutterchance.com/photoblog/Shadows_At_Bradgate_Park_/  and http://brianaw.shutterchance.com/photoblog/People_%A3%21%3Bhash%A3%21%3B4%A3%21%3Bslash%A3%21%3B7_/ . I will try harder in November.

It looks absolutely charming Brian: although alas I have never been here
Brian Walbey: We really enjoyed living there Chris, but in 1989 it was move with the job or be redundant at 45, not much choise really.

Brian Walbey: It was lovely the day before this visit and the day after but crap on the day we were there Tony, we were so dissapointed.

Brian Walbey: Thanks Ron, you are obviously not an East Anglian, this is the St.Ives in the rhyme "When I was going to St.Ives" etc.etc.

Send the judges to Specsavers Brian !!! loved the dry stone wall and shadow shot,todays posting is good despite the grey conditions and looks just the right place for a bit of float fishing,better luck in the Nov. comp.
Brian Walbey: Thanks Graham. Yes a very popular spot for float fishing, as I said this is where my son got the bug for it.
Wel ldone on your Highly Commended results, Brian. Judges can be a fickle lot but I'd be happy with that. This looks a grand palce to be; somewhere I've never been to.

You had me worried for a moment Brian, as I thought the only St Ives was in Cornwall.
Brian Walbey: "As I was going to St.Ives, I met a man with seven wives" etc.etc. This is the St.Ives in that rhyme Chad, obviously, unlike me you are not an East Anglian.

Postcard material, it looks so surreal, almost like an HDR. Congratulations on getting commended for your images!

Brian Walbey: Thanks Bill. It is a lovely little market town, we were sorry to move away, now of course it is strange to go back, so much changes in 20 years.
Gosh I haven't been here for over fifty years ... can't really remember much.

Brian Walbey: Thanks Richard, the town has changed somewhat in the twenty years since we lived there.
A fine looking bridge Brian, even in he poor weather. I have driven past St. Ives many many times on the way to Cambridge and Felixstowe but have never called in there, looks like I should.

Congratulations on the HCs as well, our competitions start in a couple of weeks time but I don't hold out much hope this year.
Brian Walbey: If you ever pass that way agian Les drop in to St.Ives, I'm sure you would like it. Good luck with your first comp.of the season.

Brian Walbey: Thanks Albert. It isn't exactly HDR but I used the Topaz plug-in from which you can get that style of finish.
