Before the closure of miles of railway routes by Dr.Beeching during the 1960's one of the most picturesque journeys was on the main line from Derby to Manchester through the Peak District via Matlock, Bakewell and Buxton.

This picture is of one of the most famous spots on the route, the viaduct across Monsal Dale. This is now open as a public footpath and is very popular as there is a nice pub behind me at Monsal Head and a very good cafe also. I think I am standing in the hollow caused by thousands of others taking this same photo at this point!

(Don't forget - 100 up  tomorrow - hope you find my offering on this occasion very entertaining?)

I like how hidden the bridge is by all that lush greenery.
Brian Walbey: It opens out to an embankment on the right Jewlya and then dissapears in to a closed off tunnel.
