Manx Grand Prix Moments 2/5

The Manx Grand Prix motorcycle races are held on the Isle of Man TT Course every year at the end of August and early September. The Manx is considered to be the amateur rider's alternative and a learning experience for the Isle of Man TT races held in May/June. I attended 7 Manx’s between 1968 and 1974, this series is just 5 of the many shots I took over that time using my first 35mm. camera, a short telephoto lens and lford or Kodak Ektachrome slide film.

I think this shows how dangerous riding here is, Brian.
Brian Walbey: This is a winding village called Kirk Michael, modern superbikes go through at around 160 mph. back in 1973 it was probably about 130 mph.
Some great speed captured here!
Brian Walbey: Even faster today with modern bikes, I took this 45 years ago. Take a look at the same place https://youtu.be/nVS32GiU5ik

Prakticas were very popular
Brian Walbey: They were, my follow up to this was a later model of the same camera.

I love the look of those huge front breaks, Brian.
Brian Walbey: Needed at the TT Ray.

You've certainly captured a sense of speed Brian.
Brian Walbey: It is a dificult place to even get a picture, at that time, 45 years ago, it was about 130 mph.through here, these days about 160+ mph. Take a look at this https://youtu.be/nVS32GiU5ik
You can sense the rider’s concentration.
Brian Walbey: They can't afford to take their eyes off the road ahead for even a second or two at the speeds they are travelling at.
Bit of a slowcoach grin
Brian Walbey: Faster than I'd ever fancy going down a village street, but nowhere near as fast as they go now 45 years later.
Another goodie!
Brian Walbey: Thanks Tom.

The bikes may have changed but perhaps the setting in the background remains the same.
Brian Walbey: Very much the same but the bikes are much quicker than there were 45 years ago when I took this.
