photoblog image Hawkshead Parish Church 5/7

Hawkshead Parish Church 5/7

Hawkshead parish church has a fine chancel and the stained glass in the east window dated 1894 is by Hardman. Also on the walls are quite a number of memorial tablets in memory of, presumably, important people from the village from past times.

The small side area off to the left is where I took a 'Caturday' picture for tomorrow, you'll have to look in to see what I mean.

Lovely symmetry to your photo! I anticipate the Caturday...
Brian Walbey: The symmetry of this church is lovely, identical both sides.

Bel intérieur, j'aime les arcades.

So, a church cat keeps the place "alive," Brian?! smile I like the thought for this place.

Beautiful symmetry here. I like the contrasting colors of green against the brown wood. So pretty.
Brian Walbey: The symmetry of this church is lovely, identical both sides, and it is so well presented if you know what I mean.

How well the green carpet and long cushions suit, Brian
Brian Walbey: It is a very presentable church, the people of the village must be very proud of it.

Always love the woodwork in churches like this. Good they keep a cat.... you never know wink
Brian Walbey: The woodwork in this church was especially well done and looked after. As for the cat, all will be revealed tomorrow!

Nice and symmetric. I always wondered about this seating arrangement. Staring at the other half of the congregation, all the time. Many pew sitters will develop a stiff neck, if they want to look at the preacher.
Brian Walbey: The symmetry of this church is lovely, identical both sides. Re the pews if you look back to Tuesdays post you will see the congregations pews all face forward towards the chancel and east and of the church. Within the chancel the pews for the choir were always set like this so they can both see and hear each other as they sing and the clergy can move to and from the altar area quite easily. All of our traditional parish churches are like this.

I am not keen on their choice of glass orbs on the central light.
Brian Walbey: I'm not sure about them also but at least they will let a lot of light out.
They certainly are keeping their parish church in good order, Brian.
Brian Walbey: Most village churches are pretty tidy but this one was exceptioanlly so, and being where it is it must have hundreds of visitors passing through on a daily basis.
The pews look to be of very good quality Brian
Brian Walbey: Yes they do, the whole church was in tip top condition.

a pleasing shot, Brian, with no one to get in the view by way of distraction.
Brian Walbey: I was lucky to have the place more or less to myself, apart from Maureen of course.
Those lights do seem a little out of place.
Brian Walbey: I don't mind the light frame but I'm not too keen on those big globes.

A delight. So much to enjoy here.
Brian Walbey: Thanks Alan, it is a lovely little church, worth a visit if you go that way again.
