On devine aisément la vitesse.
Brian Walbey: Yes they are travelling quite quickly at this part of the circuit.
Well... Marlboro & Firestone are both US companies... and I like the color!
Brian Walbey: Back in those days a lot of the teams were sponsored by cigarette companies, it is a 'no-no' nowadays of course.
Not a name I recall, Brian.
Brian Walbey: James Howden Ganley is a former racing driver from New Zealand. From 1971 to 1974 he participated in 41 World Championship Formula One Grands Prix. He placed 4th twice and scored points 5 times for a total of 10 championship points.

The days when F1 cars were sponsored by cigarette brands!

It must be exhilarating.
Brian Walbey: I guess it must be. If one stands next to an F1 car they are so low that the top of the drivers helment is only about mid-thigh on an average height man so the impression of speed must be horrendous!
brilliant shot, Brian. i am pleased to be able to see your images from the 1970s. i had the experience of visiting the Sepang F1 grand prix some years back.
Brian Walbey: Thanks Ayush. It isn't until one actually attends a grand prix, be it practising or racing, that one realises how low to the ground the cars are and how fast they are actually travelling, especially round bends and corners. It just doesn't come over on the TV. does it.
great capture Brian... i love the checkered flag used for your background....petersmile
Brian Walbey: I'd got the images ready and then suddenly had the idea of framing them with the chequered flag.

I've not followed F1 for some years now but even I know that this is very different from today's cars - no cigarette advertising for one thing...
Brian Walbey: The cigarette advertising was done away with quite a long time ago, and compared with todays cars these can't matchthem in technical terms.
