Helm Crag Near Grasmere 1/4

Helm Crag is a fell in the English Lake District situated in the Central Fells to the north of Grasmere. Despite its low height it sits prominently at the end of a ridge, easily seen from the village. This, combined with the distinctive summit rocks which provide the alternative name 'The Lion and the Lamb', makes it one of the most recognised hills in the District. Thanks to Alan for identifying it for me.

That lovely sloping, green foreground finishes this image off nicely, Brian.
Brian Walbey: It is a beautiful spot to be. I'm showing another angle tomorrow and two further angles next weekend.

Even before I saw the text, I quickly recognised this scene. It makes me wonder why I’ve not been back to the Lake District for nearly 18 months. Thanks for the mention 😊
Brian Walbey: I fIw as 30 etars younger and a lot fitter I wouldn't mind trying to walk to the top of Helm Crag.

What a lovely image you have here Brian - surely a competition winner!
Brian Walbey: Thanks Chris, I did enter another version of it, see tomorrow, into a competition at my club earlier this year but it didn't win an award although the judge liked it, a lot depends on what othjer pictures are entered on the night.
A fine landscape Brian. I really don't know the lake district
Brian Walbey: Thanks Bill. We've only had the two holidays there, last year and 2016, I doubt we will return, Maureen is losing her appetite for driving long distances, especially on 'smart' motorways, although we are goimg to North Wales in June and of course round your way in September, we will probably come across country on the scenic route via Stratford and stay over near Tewksbury.

So many shades of green. Lovely.
Brian Walbey: Just how I like to see our countryside.

Oh, this image could make my day, I remember to have seen such lovely views in the Lake District!
Brian Walbey: Then I hope you will enjoy tomorrows picture of this scene from another angle and two more versions next weekend Philine.
Good pov, Brian
Brian Walbey: Thanks Tom, I am showing another POV tomorrow and two more next weekend.
This is a splendid scenery, Brian.
Brian Walbey: A beautiful part of our country Ayush.
Gorgeous landscape shot, Brian! Just beautifully composed, though forgive if I think the sky is a bit over cooked... :-(
Brian Walbey: It's lovely round that area. It wasa dullish day and I tried to inject some colour into the image but sadly it overblew the sky a little.
A lovely view, Brian. Did you know that Helm crag is the only 'Wainwright' summit that actually has to be climbed. The summit is a piece of rock named 'the Howitzer' due to its likeness to said gun. I think I'm right in saying that the esteemed Mr Wainwright never did climb it due to his aversion to such things. I'm proud to say I did...Also on top is the 'Old lady playing the piano', only viewed from the Dunmail rise side of the crag, so three notable rock formations on this summit, still awake? The best route is from the back along the ridge, in fact I think the original, straight up route was closed due to erosion it was so popular.
Brian Walbey: I thought it didn't look like one than was an easy stroll to the top, thanks for the information.
Beautiful as a frame
Brian Walbey: Thanks Claudio.
