Ambleside Church 5/7

A close-up shot of the altar in St.Mary’s church, Ambleside. The reredos of alabaster is carved with the figures of four Celtic saints. Elizabeth remarked yesterday about that beautiful red colour, I think the whole altar cloth is quite magnificent, with that, and the reredos and beautiful window it is a very impressive trio altogether.

I am unconvinced that red is a good colour to have on altar decorations, Brian.
Brian Walbey: I've seen a lot of green ones about and I must admit to not liking the use of that colour very much.
Well yes, and it's even more beautiful close up!
Brian Walbey: Proably the nicest part of the church Elizabeth, you must take time to call in if you ever pass that way again.

So much thought went into this design...just beautiful.
Brian Walbey: The whole lot just falls together to make a beautiful group.

The alabaster and altar cloth go together very well
Brian Walbey: One of the nicest bits of the church I felt.
An impressive trio, indeed, Brian, and lots to see everywhere you look.

This is an amazing piece of art, Brian. So many details here and I see that "kneeler" on the left, also the red colour.
The stained glas in the background looks like very well designed too.

What a great altar - I recognise the God's Lamb and the eagle, but I miss some holy things on the altar.
Brian Walbey: I don't know why the altar was empty but it could be to deter theft, Ambleside has thousands of visitors every year so there's bound to be a few shady characters among them.

That's a rather unusual reredos.
