Great Central Railway (North) 4/7

There is a lot of equipment of all types standing about in the yard at Ruddington, in all sorts of condition. They are a very much small relation to their big brother GCR at Loughborough, although within a few years both railways will be joined, as they once were, now there is a new bridge in place over the Midland main line at Loughborough station.

Oh yes...much restoration still to be done.
Brian Walbey: I suspect that might never happen Ray.
Very sad - but the rust is wonderful!
Brian Walbey: I can't believe they will ever get round to putting this lot back to good order, but they make for good pictures.

I would not know where to begin with the state of these engines Brian. It looks like a lot of hard work.

They are all in retirement and earn now a sort of "charity".

What photo opportunities to be had here!

There will soon be more people travelling on heritage railways than on the cr*ppy franchises
Brian Walbey: I must admit from 1960 until mid 1977 I went to work by train every day, most of that to London and I don't envy train commuters one bit these days, the trains might be better, but they are shorter and some of the franchise companies leave a bit to be desired. We are on East Midlands Trains out of St.Pancras and they seem reasonably o.k.as far as I can ascertain.
A lot of work to be done!
Brian Walbey: I doubt whether it ever will be Tom.

Let’s hope the fortunes of baby brother benefit from the connection to big brother. I do like these old steam cranes.
Brian Walbey: I think once the two parts do become one then this smaller part must gain somewhat but I imagine it will still be a few years yet.
