Tyneham Village 10/10

Gardeners Cottage

I hope you have enjoyed this brief glance at the lost village of Tyneham, it is an interesting, but sad, place to visit, and  even though it was a busy Sunday afternoon when we visited everybody, including the children, seemed to treat the place with due reverence. If you are ever in or near Dorset it is worth making the effort to visit, the countryside alone is worth seeing, but it isn't always open so details of when it is can be found here http://www.tynehamopc.org.uk/calendar_2018.html

A wonderful series, Brian, and you presented it superbly.
Brian Walbey: Thanks very much Ray.
It really is both sad and wonderful, Brian. I have never heard of such a place elsewhere.
Brian Walbey: I quite agree with you Ginnie, I also haven't heard of such a place before.

I am ashamed to confess I've never visited this place Brian. I must make amends
Brian Walbey: It's not that far from Swanage which I believe you visit occasionally but you need to check when it is open before you go here http://www.tynehamopc.org.uk/calendar_2018.html
Like Chris i have never been here but would certainly like to
Brian Walbey: It's not far from Swanage but if you intend going you nedd to check out the opening times here http://www.tynehamopc.org.uk/calendar_2018.html

Must have been a well-to-do gardener... This is a great collage.
Brian Walbey: Yes I wondered why the Gardener had one of the biggest cottages in the village.
A pity it can't be rebuilt.
Brian Walbey: Indeed Tom, it is still under the control of the army and I guess always will be.
It is quite surprising how the all the walls have stood without any roof timbers to tie them in.
Brian Walbey: Quite a lot of them have steel braces going across opposite walls.
thank you for the terrific effort in treating us to these views, Brian.
Brian Walbey: My pleasure Ayush, oen doesn't come across somewhere like this very often.
Impressive as only the walls were left and everything else disappeared
Brian Walbey: Apparently a lot of the materials the cottages were made of was stolen by people who wanted it to build/repair cottages of their own!

I think it helped that it was a sunny day. If this was on a dark rainy day, it would have been totally different. A wonderful educative series, Brian.
Brian Walbey: Thanks Astrid, I have sent Ginnie a link where you can read all sorts of information about this strange place if you are interested.
It was a truly remarkable place to see. I enjoyed it a lot.
Brian Walbey: I'm so pleased to hear that Mary.
this was a great series of the Tyneham Village and this collage on the gardener's cottage is a good way to close it out....petersmile
Brian Walbey: Thanks very much Peter.

Brian Walbey: Thanks Alan.
