Ecclesbourne Railway 4/4

From April 2011 onward, passengers are now able to board and alight heritage services at Duffield where in recent years a station platform has been re-constructed. Heritage services are timed to connect with East Midlands Trains Nottingham - Derby - Matlock service at the adjacent Duffield Network Rail platforms and therefore it is now possible for passengers to travel to and from Wirksworth by train from anywhere on the national network. The shot here is of an East Midlands Trains service travelling towards Derby and London.

Lovely shot, with this colourful worm emerging from the luxuriant greenery, Brian.
Brian Walbey: It gives you a good idea of the lovely surroundings along that part of the line.
That thing looks fast! Love the colors!
Brian Walbey: They are fast Elizabeth, give them a straight length of track and they are pretty fast.

For inhabitants of Wirksworth this must be a wonderful thing. Bet property prices shot up!
Brian Walbey: I've no idea how much the Ecclesbourne line is used by local inhabitants but on the saturday we rode the line quite a few local people got on and off.
They should employ gardeners to weed the platform Brian, not just spray killer on the weeds.
Brian Walbey: That's down to network rail and in all honesty they should be ashamed to leave a platform in this state, but it is one of their unmanned halts so there is nobody to keep it tidy.
a very basic train platform here, Brian. i like the 3(?) car diesel train.
Brian Walbey: A not very well looked after platform, it is an unmanned station, as many are in our country. The train i two 3-0car units fixed together, the back part is hidden behind the shrubs.
A good idea but it is rather a shame the station couldn't sport a few pots of plants and a seat or two
Brian Walbey: It is one of those unmanned stations, hence it is untidy! To the right out of picture is a large shelter and seating for waiting passengers.
A well timed shot, Brian!
Brian Walbey: Thanks Tom.

Somehow the station does not seem to have the same cared-for look of those seen in Michael Portillo's continental rail trips. I wonder just how many people use this station from the national network?
Brian Walbey: It is one of those unmanned stations, hence it is untidy! This was a dull and damp Saturday lunchtime and in the order of 20 people used the station to go either towards Sheffield one way and Derby the other while I was taking afew shots.
