Previously known as the ‘Overflows’ Nature Alive is now a designated local nature reserve, a far cry from its original use as a coal stocking yard and settling pools for Snibston Colliery. The site is rich in flora and fauna, boasting such habitants as water voles and great crested newts. The site is managed by North West Leicestershire District Council as a nature reserve to retain a natural and informal appearance. Nature Alive holds a variety of habitats including mature specimen trees and shrubs, ponds and open water, ditches, wildflower meadow, rough grass and hedgerows.
